MySQL Histograms versus Indexes

Nobody complains when the database is too fast. Those in search of ever faster queries will use indexed to speed them. But indexes have overhead and improper understanding of their technology can actually make things slower. Histograms are another technique that can be useful but they do not work for all types of data.
