Cheryl is a Toronto-based engineering manager at CoLab Software, where she leads engineering teams to deliver complex, high quality features. She is passionate about empowering teams to be high performing using empathy-driven leadership and promoting positive team culture. As for her technical background, Cheryl specializes in front-end development, design, design systems and UI architecture which has lead her to her other passion of bridging the gap between design and development teams.

We will deep dive into strategies such as defining your goals and setting a roadmap, working collaboratively with design teams, the importance of design systems, leveraging technical tools like feature flags and Storybook, and how to overcome technical debt and resistance to change.

We will be looking at studies that explore the proven characteristics of highly effective teams such as psychological safety, dependability, structure and clarity, and the behaviours of their managers to enable high performance, such as fostering a culture of team empowerment, open communication / collaboration and constant improvement.
